I have poor eyesight. When I got glasses for driving more than a year ago, it was 0.5/0.75, and now, judging by how it feels, it has dropped even further.
Does poor eyesight cause inconvenience? Yes, but not at all in the way I used to fear. The most unpleasant thing I lost was the ability to make out people’s faces from a distance. Not to recognize acquaintances, just to see them, plain and simple. Such an ordinary ability, usually taken for granted and hardly appreciated, turned out to be very important to me.
I do not want to wear glasses all the time, so whenever I put them on for anything other than driving, I start greedily looking at faces as soon as their features become visible.
